Job description Job purpose: To work as part of the Academic Programmes Team to help WSET meet its objective of producing high-quality translated educational, educator-training and examination materials across multiple languages. Principal duties and responsibilities: Translation and production of materials • Assists in creating project briefs and providing instructions to third-party translators, copy-editors, technical editors, proofreaders, designers and typesetters (“the vendors”) for all languages. • Assists in managing projects through translation, editing, technical editing, typesetting/design and proofreading/testing, and performs quality-assurance checks. • Carries out quality checks on documents in final file formats. • Logs and collates source-text queries and language-specific queries from the vendors, keeping the Head of Translation and Translation Project Managers/Product Developers up to date and synchronising updates with other languages, as appropriate. • Checks the consistency of new translations with current published materials. If the vendors suggest new translations, resolves inconsistencies with the Product Development team, exam team and other external vendors, and documents the outcome. • Completes projects on time and on budget as per established guidelines provided by the Head of Translation. • Completes project admin, ensuring all vendor agreements, quotes and invoices are correctly processed and filed. • Maintains and archives digital files so that they are clearly and accurately stored and can be easily retrieved/accessed. • Assists with pre-translation edits of the source-text files as required. Management of queries, feedback and errors relating to published WSET materials • Assists Translation Project Managers to respond in a timely and professional manner to queries concerning translation accuracy of WSET materials, as required by the Head of Translation. • Documents and follows up on errors with relevant stakeholders according to the errors management process. Vendor management • Monitors the vendors’ performance, building positive working relationships and giving constructive feedback for future improvement. • Coordinates the work of vendors and negotiates rates and deadlines to deliver projects on time and in accordance with translation team budget and quality parameters. • Records which vendors have worked on each project and documents any key information. • Supports training of vendors to promote use of translation technology as required. Translation Management System • Utilises the Translation Management System to optimise translation consistency, quality and efficiency across our business. • Supports the implementation of technological solutions. • Creates and maintains assets including translation memories and term bases for allocated languages. Project workflow and systems development • As required, documents updates to checklists, procedures and workflows. Accessible materials • Creates accessible versions of educational materials as required. Additional tasks (according to language specialism(s)) • Creates and maintains style guides for English and/or specialist languages, carries out research, consults internal stakeholders and works with external vendors, as appropriate. • Carries out editing and proofreading of materials for English and/or specialist languages.
