GALA Board of Directors

The GALA Board of Directors is composed of volunteer members who are elected by the GALA membership to serve for two-year terms. All board members work as unpaid members for the benefit of the industry as a whole.

 

Hans Fenstermacher, Chairman


In 2002, Hans was a founder of GALA and served as its first board chairman. Since then, Hans has remained active in the association, serving on the Executive Director search committee and the GALA Cancun 2009 program committee (along with Kim Harris and Aki Ito). Currently, Hans is chair of the GALA Advisory Council.

Hans has been in the language industry for nearly 30 years, as a translator, interpreter, technical writer, project manager, owner/entrepreneur, and corporate executive. In 1994, Hans founded a localization company, ArchiText, which was acquired by Translations.com in 2006. He is also an associate fellow of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) and was former president of the STC Boston Chapter. As a frequent contributor to industry publications and events, Hans has long been an advocate of the importance of language, localization, and global content.

Robinson Kelly, Vice Chair

Aki Ito

Director of International Operations
TOIN Corporation, Japan

A native of Japan, Aki Ito has been involved in the localization industry since 1996 in many different aspects of localization activities such as sales management, operations management, project management, Japanese language management and consulting, and translation memory tool management. He previously served on the GALA Board of Directors in 2005-2006 (and as chairman of the board in 2006). He has also served on the editorial board for MultiLingual Computing magazine.

Prior to the localization industry, Aki was an account executive at Dell Computer in the U.S. and Japan, selling personal computers and networking solutions to multinational companies for their worldwide implementations. Aki has an MBA in International Marketing and a BA in International Relations.

Arturo Quintero

Chief Corporate Strategist
Moravia Worldwide, Czech Republic

Arturo Quintero is Moravia's Corporate Strategy Director and is a co-owner of the company. He is responsible for the development of Moravia's global strategies. Arturo is based at Moravia's headquarters in the Czech Republic and spends extensive periods of time in other Moravia locations. He has been with Moravia since 1992, and together with co-owner Katerina Janku, has been the entrepreneurial driving force behind the company's growth.

Arturo has been an active member of the industry for many years, is a frequent speaker and writer, and has had direct involvement in many industry initiatives and events. He is also dedicated to promoting the translation and localization industry at large, and often speaks and lectures on the topic of global strategies and management.

Dimitri Stoquart

After obtaining his degree in translation from the School of Translators and Interpreters at the University of Mons in 1985, Dimitri Stoquart started working in the industry as a freelance translator, mainly translating computer books for a Paris publishing house in the late 1980s.

In 1991, Dimitri founded Stoquart SA and progressively transformed his freelance activity into a well-established translation and localization company with a proven track record. ISO 9001:2000 certified for 7 years now, with an in-house staff of over 20 and collaborating with valued freelancers, Stoquart works both as an SLV to MLVs and as an MLV to its own client base, all on a partner-based relationship.

In early 2006, Dimitri co-founded and became one of the CEOs of the LETS Communicate European Economic Interest Grouping of translation companies. In September 2007, Dimitri Stoquart came full circle, returning to his alma mater to teach the use of CAT tools to third year students.

Kim Harris

Managing Director
text & form GmbH, Germany

A native of Toronto, Canada, Kim studied French and German at the University of Toronto and moved to Berlin, Germany in 1986 to complete her language studies. She founded text & form GmbH in March 1996 with three other partners. As co-owner and managing director of text & form, Kim has performed a number of extracurricular duties within the translation and localization community. She has published several articles, organized industry events, and spoken on various topics including trends in the localization industry, the future of SMEs in the industry, quality standards, and industry metrics.

Kim served on the GALA Board of Directors in 2007-2008 and was chairperson for the last year of that term. She was a member of the GALA 2009 program committee that created the content for GALA's first independent conference, "The Business of Language, The Language of Business", held in Cancún, Mexico.

Serge Gladkoff

President
Logrus International, USA

Serge Gladkoff graduated from a Russian ivy league nuclear physics science college and has been engaged in the localization industry for more than seventeen years, first as a deputy director for a software distribution company Dialogue-MEPhI, then as a localization manager of Borland International's Moscow office, and for the past fourteen years, as the co-founder and co-owner of the Logrus International Corporation.

Since August 2006 Serge has served as Chair of the GALA Standards Committee, driving the initiative to uncover benefits for GALA members through sharing business information.
