European Language Industry Survey Open Through 31 January
Once again, GALA has partnered with EUATC and other language industry associations to conduct the European Language Industry Survey (ELIS) in order to answer benchmarking questions relevant to all key stakeholders.
The 2025 edition of ELIS remains true to its traditional focus: to identify trends, concerns, and expectations in the language industry. This means that part of the survey is identical to previous editions, to ensure correct analysis of year-to-year trends and allow benchmarking, but as in previous years, this edition has its own focus areas as well.
This year the survey takes a dive deep into the topic of internships. Nobody doubts that internships are useful to prepare students for a professional career, but information about actual practices is scattered and scarce. ELIS will try to provide useful insights for universities, students, regulators and industry stakeholders alike.
Another topic that the survey cannot ignore is the impact of AI. Last year, language professionals and companies expressed their deep concerns regarding the impact of the new technologies and other disruptive developments. The ELIS survey continues to monitor those concerns and is now moving the focus to the stakeholders' reactions. Are they still waiting for business to return to normal or are they adapting to take advantage of new opportunities? What is *actually* happening in practice?
And with additional attention to differences between client types, specific types of content and other topics, ELIS 2025 will provide an even more comprehensive view of language industry practices than previous editions.
Participants can access the survey from the ELIS website's landing page: https://elis-survey.org, where they can choose the survey form that best suits their own profile. There are 5 different forms: independent language professionals (freelancers), language service companies, language departments (both enterprise and institutional), university staff, and students.
When submitting the survey, the user will see a confirmation page which provides a link to a registration page where they can pre-register for the free online Translating Europe Workshop on 18th March, where the ELIS 2025 results will be announced and discussed.
