In your view, what are the most important challenges and opportunities facing GALA?
The biggest challenge in the industry at the moment is the use of AI and its associated effects. GALA needs to make sure that its members are current in all relevant aspects of this challenge and are aware of how to take advantage of the benefits, while not succumbing to the pitfalls of this and other new technologies.
GALA's relevance to all its members is paramount. This means actively seeking and incorporating the diverse perspectives of our membership, rather than allowing a select few, no matter how knowledgeable, to dominate the organization's messaging.
We are at a very interesting time in our industry, and GALA must be nimble and knowledgeable enough to provide advice and guidance to its membership in fast changing topics through its multiple channels while not losing sight of the general industry need for ongoing education in multiple areas of our ever-changing world.
How have you engaged with GALA as a member?
When I founded Fluen, in 2024 , one of my first actions was to join GALA. Over the years, I have attended annual conferences as a speaker, exhibitor, or attendee. I have sponsored local GALA events, attended online webinars, and was lucky enough to attend the first Roadshow in New York.
Besides your work with GALA, how do you engage with our industry (associations, conferences, speaking, publishing, community events, etc.)?
In my previous position at Dotsub, i was very fortunate to be able to attend many industry events in Europe and North America. I have spoken at regional European conferences, e.g Meet Central Europe, technology conferences, AMTA, and LocWorld conferences. I have also written articles for multiple industry publications, most recently for EUATC, discussing the democratization of Audio-Visual Translation https://bit.ly/3XOQfJ5. As resources at Fluen become available, I hope to continue my industry engagement.
What superpowers can you bring to board service? Describe previous board experience, leadership training, or strategic leadership you’ve had.
I can bring diverse people and roles together and get them to work towards a common goal.
Which segment(s) of GALA's membership do you represent? What perspective will you bring?
I represent two groups. First the Audio Visual Translation segment and secondly the small, startup perspective where resources are very scarce and their efficient use is vital.
