"GALA's Board has a responsibility towards professionals, clients and professionals worldwide. This responsibility pivots around a leadership role in transforming how our services are delivered."

In your view, what are the most important challenges and opportunities facing GALA?

GALA can act as a beacon to guide the transition from 30-year-old workflows based on CAT tools and translation memories to true communication. The vast majority of professionals and universities have focused on teaching TM-based tools. New processes are pushing professionals out of the industry, from sales to translation. Leadership from the top has to lead, educate, integrate and create the next-generation professionals with AI as an ally. And true, a threat as well: a threat to TM-based processes.

GALA, as a professional association and those who make up the Board have a responsibility towards professionals, practitioners and professionals worldwide and this responsibility pivots around a leadership role in transforming the way our services are delivered.

How have you engaged with GALA as a member?

I have presented at several GALA conferences (3 times in Valencia!) and run webinars. There are also some articles on the web.

Besides your work with GALA, how do you engage with our industry (associations, conferences, speaking, publishing, community events, etc.)?

I’m a frequent speaker at TAUS and LocWorld and evaluate EU grant projects, including open LLMs, fine-tuning, and Large Model AI. I've partnered on Europeana and the new Mosaic project, where AI builds language solutions for broadcasters. In 2024, Multilingual published my articles "Language is no longer human" and "Automatic Post-editing". I initiated Proz gatherings in Valencia and LocLunch, and I'm active in ValgrAI, a Spanish AI association.

What superpowers can you bring to board service? Describe previous board experience, leadership training, or strategic leadership you’ve had.

My parents are mere mortals. Even so I know a thing or two about machine translation & AI :)

Which segment(s) of GALA's membership do you represent? What perspective will you bring?

We were an LSP providing translation services until we began our MT journey in 2009. From 2017, we moved to neural networks. We are a combination of service and technology providers.
