GALA 2025 Conference Student Volunteers

Apply to volunteer at GALA 2025 Montreal! Conference volunteers support GALA staff in hosting one of the language industry's most popular and insightful events - GALA's annual conference. Eight students will be selected to join GALA in Montreal 13-15 April.

APPLY TO BE A STUDENT CONFERENCE VOLUNTEER

Applications are open to students currently enrolled in translation, localization, interpreting, and related programs/majors (such as computational linguistics, international business, etc.). Applicants must be currently enrolled in an academic program. All eligible student applications will be entered into a drawing. 

Applications are open 10-24 February. Selected volunteers will be notified by early March.

How do I apply?

  1. Log in to your GALA user account. 
  2. Click the button to apply to open the application form.
  3. Complete and save the application form by 24 February 2025 at 11:59 pm PST.

GALA staff will review all the applications for eligibility (see requirements below). All eligible applications will be entered into a drawing. Selected applicants will have one week to accept the position.

What do I need to apply?

  • GALA user account. If you do not have a GALA account, create one for free using your school email address.
  • Curriculum vitae / resume.
  • Proof of Enrollment that shows you are currently enrolled in an academic program, such as: an unofficial transcript or a signed note from university staff on official letterhead.

Am I eligible to be a conference volunteer?

  • Student volunteers must be currently enrolled in an academic program focusing on translation, localization, interpreting, linguistics, and related programs/majors. If you are unsure if your program/major qualifies, contact Alex at [email protected] with the details and how it relates to localization.
  • This opportunity is open to first-time GALA conference volunteers.
  • You do not need to be a GALA member to apply.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

Volunteers work one full day in exchange for regular conference attendance the other day. All volunteers are required to attend a virtual training in early April and an onsite training in Montreal.

  • Sunday 13 April: mandatory onsite training
  • Monday 14 April: full day
  • Tuesday 15 April: full day

Please note:

  • GALA does not provide financial assistance for volunteers beyond the conference registration.
  • Volunteers must make their own travel and lodging arrangements.
    • You may indicate if you are interested in shared accommodations with other volunteers on the application form (checking "yes" is not a commitment or a guarantee).
  • The following meals are included on Monday and Tuesday: morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack.
  • The GALA Monday Dinner may be purchased separately (it is not included with volunteer registration).
  • Conference add-ons (tours, events) may be purchased separately if the volunteer is not assigned to work at that time.
  • Volunteers will receive an official letter of their service (for their university) and a certificate.
  • Volunteers may add this position to their LinkedIn profiles and CVs.
