First of all, I absolutely fell in love with the professionalism of all the people involved in the organization. We had such interesting discussions. But what I really liked was the very pragmatic approach to the topics of language accessibility, the business side of language services, that I missed in my life as an academic. So it really enriched me with an experience that literally changed my way of seeing and looking at language as a business, as a profession. My wish would be that the two worlds, academia and industry, could learn a lot more from each other.

Acting as a middleman between the hype and reality of AI interpretation, LSPs play a pivotal role in filtering the best approach for their clients. As the field evolves, having an expert becomes even more necessary. This individual should possess knowledge of how interpretation works, be aware of the challenges and potentials of AI, and provide informed advice to clients.

 

Investing in training and forming an in-house expert is a valuable step. This expertise adds significant value to the technology and allows the LSP to consult clients effectively, provide accurate information, and set the right limitations on technology application. Ultimately, the in-house expert becomes an invaluable asset that enhances the LSP's offerings and benefits both the company and its clients.

AI is a powerful tool that has already had a significant impact on the labor market, democracy, and various other aspects of society. Therefore, it is crucial to engage in discussions about AI and how to govern it effectively. The focus should be on finding ways to govern AI rather than opposing its development, as opposition alone is not a workable solution.
