[GALA Valencia 2024] Everyone’s Included – All You Need to Know to Create Accessible Content
When thinking about content accessibility, the first group that comes to mind is usually visually impaired users. What if I told you there's more you should think about? During our user testing sessions, we learned that our users (who are, at the same time, professional translators and LSP project managers) also have other difficulties. ADHD, short-term and long-term memory problems, dyslexia, processing speed, depression, after-covid fog brain, and neurodivergence, just to name a few.
So, how do we use language to help them work and enjoy the experience? Should we rely on Clear writing, Plain English, IBM's Easy English, ASD Simplified Technical English, Caterpillar Technical English, or Voice of America's Special English? Is it more challenging to write for professional translators? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes x 100000.
