Guidelines for Submitting a Successful Conference Proposal

Are you eager to share your expertise at the annual GALA Conference? Crafting a compelling proposal that stands out among the competition requires careful consideration. To increase your chances of acceptance, follow these suggestions, courtesy of the GALA Montreal 2025 Program Committee.

Understand the Conference Theme and Audience.

Tailor your proposal to align with the conference theme, objectives, formats, and the interests of the GALA audience.

Provide a Clear and Compelling Title.

Your title is the first thing the GALA Program Committee (and the audience) will see. The title should convey what you will cover in your presentation. Make it clear, concise, and interesting enough to draw attention. Avoid jargon and overly technical language unless it’s critical for the topic.

Write a Concise Abstract.

Write an abstract (350 words max.) that clearly communicates your session's value. Your abstract should clearly highlight how the topic aligns with the conference theme and objectives. Explain why the format you selected will deliver value to the audience. Highlight why the topic is relevant.

Define Clear Takeaways.

Clearly state what attendees will take away from your session. Avoid general takeaways such as "the audience will gain a greater understanding on the topic" and similar.

Outline an Engaging Structure for Your Session.

The GALA Program Committee is seeking dynamic presentations, so consider including activities or audience participation (polls, questions to the audience, etc.)

Highlight Originality and Relevance.

The GALA Program Committee prioritizes original content. Make sure your proposal offers a unique perspective, cutting-edge research, or a new approach to an existing problem. Avoid submitting proposals that have been presented already at other events.

Proofread and Edit Thoroughly.

Ask a colleague to read through your proposal as if they were a potential attendee to the conference.
